River City Racin'

This year we had the wonderful experience of being host to the 1st River City Racin' Hydroplane Boat Races. Although the Missouri River is the perfect place for such an event, it was the first of its kind, and a totally new experience for most.

The racing began Saturday, July 12 with qualifying races. In conjunction with the races, there was also a car show, vintage boats, custom motorcycles, kids inflatable jumpers, quick draw shooting, food vendors, and other various vendors. The action continued Sunday with the finals. A Corey and the Fireflies concert was held after the races.

Next years races will be held July 11 & 12 2009. So make plans now to attend the Midwest's only major water event! Cedar Shore reservations 888-697-6363

Visit the River City Racin' website for more info on the wonderful event they put on.

Family Cup - Labor Day

And the winner is......The Cawthorne Family!

This year we hosted our 3rd Annual Family Cup Labor Day Weekend. Eight families competed in Cedar Shore's version of Olympic Games. The teams were required to have two team members 12 years old or younger; various contestants participated in eight different games.

Many hours were spent trying to think of some fun and interesting games, and we think everyone had a pretty good time, despite the windy conditions! (30-40 mph!)

This event is always held Labor Day weekend, so be thinking about planning your family vacation to Cedar Shore Resort at that time.

I will let the pictures tell you about our games.......

River Kids Fest

We had so much fun at River Kids Fest. This is always held the second weekend in August (Aug. 9th this year). Our Recreational Intern, Ida VandeWalle, organized the events with help with the rest of our office staff. She brought in something new this year, Stackers. The children, (and even some of us adults) were fascinated in how fast our demonstrators could stack and unstack those cups!

This year, our biggest hits seemed to be the characters that visited the resort. Sponge Bob Square Pants handed out finger printing kits, Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head danced around while the kids made their own potato heads, and, last, but not least, "Hannah Montana" passed out ice cream treats to all the kids. You should have heard the screams when "Hannah" walked out onto the yard! Parents got out the cameras to take pictures of their children with all the characters. It was a lot of fun!

We had an inflatable bouncer and an inflatable water slide which was another big hit. I know from personal experience, that it was a blast!

Xtreme Cheerleading put on a mini camp, and the girls performed at the end. It was really cute!

We had too many fun things to write about each, but here is a list of some other things we did: water balloon target launch; tattoo parlor; story time; crafts; free paddle boats; police car, fire truck, and ambulance tours; mini train rides, Freddy the Clown made animals balloons, and face painting! Of course we had our Waterfront Buffet along with our regular deck menu for outside dining. The South Hand Band played on the deck, and young and old danced away.

This really is a wonderful event as almost everything is FREE!!! (thanks Modern Woodmen, The Cozard Library & the local emergency crews) Where else can you have so much fun with your children close to home!
Same weekend next year! See you there!

4th of July Festivities

I know, I know, it is looming into fall, summer is over, but I though I'd share some pictures from our Fourth of July weekend 2008.

We had bands on the deck that weekend and kids games on the lawn Thursday.

Our frog races, didn't quite evolve, as they were tadpoles, so we raced them in the minnow tracks, and the kids thought it was really neat. Kids and parents alike loved the kiddie parade, which gave the children a chance to dress up and parade around the resort. They were so cute!

Cedar Shore Resort really is a great place to come spend the weekend with the family fishing from the banks of the Missouri River, out on the boat, or just relaxing around the resort and pool.

Enjoy!
